Each year, Mooneyes Sweden invites 50 choppers, bobbers, custombikes and classic motorcycles to be part of the Moon Bike Show in Avesta, Sweden. Only to be one of the chosen 50 is more than honour enough. So on the eve of March 8th, we delivered not one, but two bikes to Verket – a beautiful, old ironwork that has been turned into a museum and art gallery. We have talked extensively about John’s Digger, but the very unexpected star of the day would be Victor’s Carnage Café.
The Carnage Café started its life as a Christmas present when I (Julia) had run out of ideas on what to gift Victor. As you might’ve read previously, we made a pretty rad Buell XB post-apocalyptic custombike called the Revenge of the Wastelands to show off the Backbone sheet metal frame developed for crashed XB motors. But we never made a “normal” tank and rear section for it – this was about to change. So, we went to work and made a plan for a Cafe Racer that would earn its name. The aim was to be as light and simple as possible, clean and rough looking but still functional.
The engine is a air-horned Mikuni HSR42 carburetor and Dyna 2000i ignition converted XB12 running on a Joost box and matching display commanded by illuminated Rebelmoto push buttons. The exhaust is a NCCR prototype with dual outlets and full road legality. Controls are at the handlebar completely by HEL UK, foot peg assembly is engine-mounted and specially designed for the bike. Besides the powder coated rims, all other surfaces except tank and seat are Cerakote Glacier Black and Glacier silver. The tank/seat assembly is handmade in Germany by Friedhelm Lammers in polished aluminium, leather works by NCCR from Pär. Suspension is by Wilbers, a German brand we have featured here before.
Again, our favourite Swedish steel, namely SSAB Docol and Strenx, shines with its durability and ease of use. Just like the Digger, the Carnage Café was built on ME-Racing’s Multi-Jig which is the easily the best and most flexible way to build a precise frame jig.
Now, please enjoy our utter “Deer-in-the-Headlights”-expressions as we were called on stage to received “Best Racer”, completely to our surprise. We feel very honoured to have won this prize considering the competition (see picture gallery below) and would like to thank both Håkan and his family at Mooneyes Sweden and everyone else who made this wonderful event happen.
